Decorations
In order to avoid decorating chaos, it's best to start with one central
theme in your nursery decorations. Be it a focussed colour, design,
recurring theme or one main character, have that as your starting point. For example, if your nursery decorations are for a baby girl, pink is an obvious
choice. But for a unique and magical experience why not turn the
nursery into a woodland glen?
On one wall create a mural of trees, shrubs, flowers, animals and even a fairy ring made from
red and white spotted toadstools.
Use a deep forest green fabric
for the bedding of the cot and the curtains, with tie-backs in the shape of butterflies. A menagerie of stuffed animals can be placed throughout the room on shelves and peeking
out of toyboxes. And no magical woodland place would be
complete without real fairies darting in and out of the flowers!
Or, for a baby boy, instead of going with conventional blue, think of an alien
planet! Paint stars on the ceiling and maybe hang a
model of a planet or two from the light fitting! And aliens don't have to be scary - they can be cute and cuddly when they are pillows
and stuffed toys! Teamed with lunar bedding and maybe wardrobe
doors fashioned to look like the space shuttle, you'll have an out of this world room for your little space
explorer!
Don't be limited by the conventions of a traditional nursery. With the range of durable and easy to work with materials available, such as MDF, a home
handyman can whip up toyboxes or shelving or wood
letters in a weekend that looks as good as anything sold in stores! And a lick of paint or new curtains will lift the look of an otherwise boring
space. And, from a sentimental angle, often the
nursery decorations you create or craft yourself will be the ones most treasured as baby grows
up.
However, if time and budget is limited, here's an idea for a quick nursery decoration that
will brighten up a boring wall.
Take an artists canvas and
paint it in a colour to match or contast with your nursery. Find a quirky and cute picture ( or two or three!) on a greeting card, cut it out and
glue it on the canvas. Make a border from seed beads, glitter or
sequins and instantly you have an original artwork to brighten up your
nursery!
So remember, no matter the cost or time you have to spend, beautiful nursery decorations are
just another way of showing your baby how much you love them and possibly giving them a headstart into their own
world of imagination and play time fun!
